What is sanded grout?
What is "sanded grout"?
Sanded grout contains fine-grained silica sand and is used to grout joints 1/8" and wider. It is often used with larger tiles, such as 6 x 6 and up, where the grout joint is often 3/8", normal for floor tile applications.
Typically wall grout contains no sand particles. Standard wall tile in most bathrooms will not accept sanded grout because the grout lines are less than 1/8".
Over the years I have used both "sanded" grout and "wall" grout. I find I have fewer issues with sanded grout because it's less porous. However, the decision to use sanded grout is really based on the width of the grout line.
