Dust hood for planer

Hugh Foster writes:

Dust hoods for planers are sold as options; I wouldn't consider the hoods optional for planing makes lots of chips.

Setting up the dust collector is lots quicker and neater than shoveling chips, but that's not really the reason for using the collector.

Along with the chips, planing generates a lot of very fine dust that collects in hard-to-clean places like your nostrils, sinus cavities, and the like.

This fine dust is what messes up your lungs and gunks up your tools.
