Faux finishing cleanup and basic Q&As

If you used water-base glazes for your faux finishing, you may use water to clean the applicators. The label on the can of glaze should give you specific cleanup instructions.
However, if you worked with an oil-base glaze, you cannot clean your applicators with water. Instead, you will need to purchase and use solvent-base cleaners. Be sure work in a well-ventilated area and follow the label directions for a safe cleanup.

Q: What color do I use first?
A: It is recommended that you use your darker color as a base coat and top it with a lighter-colored glaze since it is easier to blend lighter colors into a design. However, you do not have to use the darker color first. Make some samples to see what you like best.
Q: Can I use two light colors?
A: Yes, you may want to use two light colors, especially if you are faux finishing the walls in a small room.
Q: Do I have to use a glaze as my second coat?
A: Yes, the glaze will give you time to make the design you have chosen.
